The Building & Civil Engineering Department has well equipped workshops as well as adequate facilities for teaching and training.
The department offers Diploma and Certificate courses. The diploma programmes in particular, continues to attract a lot of suitable candidates making the department the largest in the Institute. In order to keep abreast with the needs of the economy, the courses and teaching methodology are continuously revised to meet the needs of students and of the developing economy..

The department is now focusing on participating fully in making Kenya an industrialized nation. This is being done by making curriculum more relevant and by selecting students who are motivated enough to meet the challenges. Also by hosting workshops and demonstrations in which members of staff, students and industrialists share ideas on matters of common industrial interest.
